I’ve recently been broadening my music tastes and have more recently discovered Bob Marley for a few particular songs. I admit reggae is not my typical jam but I am growing more appreciation for it. And then I came across the song "Kaya." I already knew that he was singing about cannabis; the amazing plant that it is. I don’t pretend to be a great interpreter of song lyrics, but this one spoke to me more deeply.
In my eyes, he’s using "rain" as a metaphor for the problems we experience such as when we use the phrase: "When it rains, it pours." So I’m thinking he’s singing about getting high and rising above those problems that drag us down.
Well in my household, we use cannabis as a medicine which helps us do just that. Doing so it helps us rise above the shit and live a more enjoyable life. So those days where the rain is pouring, we wake up and have some "kaya" and it helps to feel good about life.
